My first choice is a candle of a bear sitting on a rocking horse. The mother-to-be is creating a nursery based on a rocking horse theme. This is a great choice for the occasion because we don’t know if she is having a boy or a girl. I wanted to steer away from pinks and yellows.

The bear on a rocking horse candle is perfect for either a boy or a girl and it contains blues, pinks and yellows in the design. I think that this is a real winner and these candles will make perfect baby shower favors for the event I’m planning.

This decision didn’t come easily. I had many other options and there are four other candles that really stood out like the teddy bear etched on a frosted glass votive holder. This beautiful baby shower favor is a knockout but it just didn’t suit the rocking horse theme. I did like the idea of giving a glass votive as baby shower favors, though.

The next collection of baby shower favors would have been perfect if I knew whether she was having a boy or a girl. There are baby bootie candles that come in pink or blue. These are just adorable and I almost got them for the event. I was just going to give each guest one of each color but this was not cost effective.

I was also drawn to a crystal baby stroller that is filled with either pink or blue wax. Again the gender became an issue. I could have opted for white wax but I did find this to be a little dull compared to the bear on a rocking horse.

I’m happy with my pick of baby shower favors. I know that the guests as well as the new little one will love the candles.

The Experience That Altered my Perception Of History Class

I’ve never been an A student in history class but just an average one who would sit down and listen to my professor’s litany and find myself absorbing Colonial Period, Civil War Era, World War II, Cold War and a lot of other significant happenings in the olden times in one sitting. Although it’s pretty interesting to learn all about these timelines, I just find it difficult to grasp and learn all these information pressed into my brain. And so, the rest of my history in history class became one dull 60-minute agony for more or less two years of my life. I didn’t like learning about the revolution timeline.

That one afternoon changed the whole way I thought about history. Even though it was a bit of a slow day our prof had come to class armed with a question that tickled our brains. “Is there a chance that history can repeats itself”? He then asked, yet expectant that his class would respond in usual silence. As one would expect all we gave was a blank stare back at the prof, but at least we looked interested. It was then I thought to myself maybe history really does repeat itself? I took a look at the nazi timeline and saw a pattern, it was eerily similar to that of the revolution timeline.

Our teacher gave us something to think about. The social issues that we’ve discussed in the former days of our history class up to the latest topics were weaved together for us to come up with our answers. He took one particular example of presidents of the United States of America. Abraham Lincoln, the 16th President of the United States had been elected for Congress in the year 1846. On the other hand, John F. Kennedy, the 35th President of the United States had his position in the Congress in the year 1946 exactly 100 years ago when Lincoln was elected. These facts do not stop the similarities and likeness of paths these two presidents led. Lincon was elected in 1860 which was close to 100 before John F. When Kennedy took power as the new president it was 1960. Apart from these facts, these two presidents encountered the same major crisis in Civil Rights and finally, both were assassinated in their terms of service as president and both on a Friday.

Now, do I think all of these were just mere coincidences and twists of fate? My prof made me look even more scrupulously at past events and do my own in depth analysis. He then asked the question once more, “Class, do you think history repeats itself”? I had an answer ingrained in my brain that history does not repeat itself. There may have some flukes of nature and happenstance in the lives of the two presidents that were parallel with each other, but I strongly believe that it was just a product of human’s ability to over generalize. That big of info really makes one think about how the past still can haunt the present, this repeating of mistakes shows us people’s susceptibility to repeating past mistakes.

I know I’ve made a point at that moment in my once boring history class. My teacher had a look that immediately told me that I had a valid point that he might agree with. That experience made me more interested in the subject as I am now able to understand that I’m one of those silent beings taking part in the history of the world, the history of our lives and existence.
